Cassia Essential Oil

The Bold Cinnamon Spice

Cassia essential oil (Cinnamomum cassia) is known for its intensely warm, spicy aroma that closely resembles cinnamon. Steam-distilled from the bark of the cassia tree, this oil has been used for centuries in traditional practices across Asia. Cassia was once a highly prized spice in ancient trade routes and remains well known for its rich, comforting fragrance that instantly evokes warmth and spice.

In soap making, Cassia essential oil brings a bold cinnamon-like scent that adds depth and warmth to seasonal fragrance blends. It pairs especially well with orange, clove, vanilla, and other spice oils to create cozy, autumn-inspired or holiday-themed soaps. Because the scent is strong and long-lasting, even a small amount can significantly influence the overall fragrance profile of a soap.

For skincare, cassia essential oil is known for its stimulating and warming qualities. It is sometimes included in formulations designed to create an invigorating sensory experience. However, due to its potency, it is used in extremely small amounts and carefully balanced within well-formulated products.

Best Uses: Warm spice soaps and body washes; seasonal bath products; energizing aromatherapy blends; autumn and holiday fragrance formulations.

Cautions: Cassia essential oil is considered a very “hot” oil and can easily irritate the skin if used improperly. It must always be used in very low concentrations and thoroughly diluted. Patch testing is strongly recommended before topical use, especially for those with sensitive skin.
