Hi, I am Kim. And I make good soap.
That might sound simple, but there is actually a lot packed into those four words — which is exactly why I named this place The Good Soap Works Co. Around here, good soap is both what we make and what we believe in. It is a place where soap is crafted by hand with care and intention. And it is a promise that what comes out of this workshop is genuinely better than what you will find on a grocery store shelf.
Honestly? It started with a friend and a mild obsession with surviving the apocalypse.
I was on a path toward self-sufficiency — the kind where you learn to do things for yourself so that if the world ever went sideways, you would be just fine. Soap making was on my list. So when a friend mentioned she was learning how to make it, I immediately asked if I could join her. This was my chance.
That first experience was fun. It was also a little bit of a disaster.
We had no real guidance. We found recipes on the internet the way most beginners do — optimistically and without a great filter for quality. And here is something I learned very quickly: not all information on the internet is good information. Not all soap recipes are written by people who actually know how to make a good bar of soap. Ours certainly were not. The result was not exactly what you would call a success.
But something happened in that first session that I did not expect. The creativity pulled me in. The challenge of getting it right pulled me in even harder. I did not walk away discouraged — I walked away determined.
I spent the next full year researching. Reading, studying, testing, and learning the actual science behind soap making before I felt confident enough to say I understood what it took to make a genuinely good bar. I learned why the chemistry matters. I learned how different oils and fats change the finished bar. I learned what makes soap cleansing versus conditioning, hard versus soft, long-lasting versus not. I learned that soap making is both an art and a science, and that you really do need both to get it right.
And here is the thing — I am still learning. That is the great thing about soap making. It is a journey, and the destination is whatever you make it.
The Good Soap Works Co. is a small batch handcrafted soap and skincare operation, and I want to be upfront about something: we have a wide range. Wide on purpose.
On one end you will find traditional tallow soaps made with rendered animal fats the way soap has been made for centuries, scented with pure essential oils and colored with natural botanicals, clays, and plant-based colorants. On the other end you will find fully vegan bars made with plant-based oils and butters. And in between there are soaps made with skin-safe micas that swirl into something beautiful, and phthalate-free fragrance oils that make your bathroom smell like a dream.
All of it is good soap. That is the point. Whether you want the most natural bar imaginable or a gorgeous swirled beauty that smells like vanilla and makes you happy every time you step into the shower — you deserve something made with integrity. You deserve better than the detergent block most of us grew up calling soap. Everything that comes out of The Good Soap Works Co. is the real thing, made by real hands, with ingredients chosen carefully and on purpose.
Beyond soap, we make lotion bars, lip balms, deodorant, and natural skincare that follows the same philosophy. Simple. Thoughtful. Made to actually work.
Because I spent a year figuring out what nobody bothered to teach me in that first soap making session, I know exactly how much easier this journey can be with the right guidance from the start. That year of research was valuable — but it did not have to take a year. It could have taken a fraction of the time with a solid foundation and someone to point me in the right direction.
That is exactly what our courses are designed to do. Through The Good Soap Works Co., I teach beginners everything they need to know to make a genuinely good bar of soap from the very beginning — safety, equipment, ingredients, the science, and the process. No recycled internet recipes of questionable origin. Just real knowledge from someone who did the hard work of figuring it out and wants to save you the trouble.
If you have ever wanted to learn how to make soap, you are in exactly the right place.
I am not a big corporation. I am not a fancy lab. I am one person who genuinely loves making things by hand — things that look nice, work well, and are made with ingredients worth putting on your skin. I got into this because I wanted to be more self-reliant, stayed in it because the craft captured my heart, and built this business because I wanted better for my family and yours.
Good soap really works. Come find out for yourself.
