    Pure Tallow Soap

    Original price was: $8.00.Current price is: $6.80 – $8.00Price range: $6.80 through $8.00.

Pure Tallow Soap is the bar that started it all. Three ingredients — grass-fed beef tallow, distilled water, and sodium hydroxide — combined the old-fashioned way and cut into bars. No fragrance, no colorant, no additive of any kind. Tallow produces a soft, warm cream color naturally, a quiet reminder that the bar is exactly what it says it is. The lather is creamy and low-suds, the cleansing is mild, and the bar is very hard and long-lasting. Simple soap, from a simple tradition.

    • 100% grass-fed beef tallow
    • Three ingredients: tallow, distilled water, sodium hydroxide
    • Natural warm cream color — no colorants added
    • Unscented — no fragrance or essential oils
    • Creamy, low-suds lather with mild cleansing
    • Made in small batches by hand

    Description

Before there were labels to read, before there were ingredient lists to decode, there was tallow soap. Rendered fat, water, and lye — combined by hand, poured into molds, and cut into bars. The same three ingredients, the same cold process method, the same result. That is what this bar is.

Pure Tallow Soap is made from grass-fed beef tallow, distilled water, and sodium hydroxide. Nothing else. No fragrance to cover anything up, no colorant to make it look like something it isn’t, no filler to stretch it out. Just a clean, honest bar that has been made essentially the same way for centuries.

Tallow’s qualities as a soap base are well established by time. It produces a very hard, long-lasting bar — the kind that doesn’t dissolve into a puddle on the soap dish after a few days. The lather is creamy and low in suds, not the big bubbly foam of a coconut oil bar, but a quieter, denser lather that rinses cleanly and leaves skin feeling comfortable rather than stripped. Tallow is also exceptionally mild, making it a sensible choice for those with sensitive skin or anyone who simply wants to reduce the number of variables in their daily routine.

Unlike lard, which produces a brilliant white bar, tallow takes on a soft, warm cream tone — a natural result of the fat itself, with no additives required. It’s a small visual difference but an honest one. The color you see is the color of the soap.

This bar is the foundation of the The Good Soap Works Co. lineup — the starting point, the reference point, the bar everything else builds from. If you’ve never tried a tallow soap before, this is the one to start with.

    • 100% grass-fed beef tallow
    • Three ingredients: tallow, distilled water, sodium hydroxide
    • Natural warm cream color — no colorants added
    • Unscented — no fragrance or essential oils
    • Creamy, low-suds lather with mild cleansing
    • Very hard, long-lasting bar
    • Made in small batches by hand
    • Wrapped in plastic-free vellum cigar bands

    Tallow & Goat Milk Soap

    (1 customer review)

    Original price was: $8.00.Current price is: $6.80 – $8.00Price range: $6.80 through $8.00.

Tallow & Goat Milk Soap is the next step from Pure Tallow Soap — same three-ingredient philosophy, same unscented simplicity, with goat milk replacing the water. That single swap changes the bar in quiet but noticeable ways. Goat milk brings a creamier, slightly richer lather than a water-based bar, and its natural fats and proteins make it a gentler wash. The bar takes on a soft beige cream color from the milk sugars reacting gently with the lye during saponification — no colorants, no additives, just the natural chemistry of the ingredients doing what they do.

    • Made with grass-fed beef tallow and goat milk
    • Three ingredients: tallow, goat milk, sodium hydroxide
    • Soft beige cream color from natural milk sugar chemistry
    • Unscented — no fragrance or essential oils
    • Creamy medium-suds lather with mild cleansing

    Description

The simplest upgrade is sometimes the most meaningful one.

Tallow & Goat Milk Soap starts where Pure Tallow Soap leaves off. Three ingredients — grass-fed beef tallow, goat milk, and sodium hydroxide — combined using the same cold process method, cut into the same bar. The only difference is that water has been replaced entirely with goat milk. That single change is worth understanding.

Goat milk has been used in soap and skin care for centuries, and the reason has always been the same: it produces a gentler, more conditioning lather than a water-based bar. The fats and proteins naturally present in goat milk contribute to a wash that feels softer and more comfortable on the skin, particularly for those who find standard soap drying or stripping. The lather is slightly creamier and a little more medium in suds than the pure tallow version — still mild, still quiet, just a little more cushioned.

The color tells its own story. Like the Honeycomb & Oat Soap, this bar gets its color entirely from chemistry rather than colorants. When goat milk is introduced to lye during the saponification process, the natural sugars in the milk react gently with the heat, producing a soft, warm beige cream tone. It’s a lighter result than the deeper caramel of the honey bar — no honey to push the color further — but just as natural and just as honest. The color you see is the color of the soap doing its work.

No fragrance, no colorant, no additive of any kind. Just tallow, goat milk, and lye. For those who want a gentle, uncomplicated bar with one more layer of care built in, this is the one.

    • Made with grass-fed beef tallow and goat milk
    • Three ingredients: tallow, goat milk, sodium hydroxide
    • Soft beige cream color from natural milk sugar chemistry — no colorants added
    • Unscented — no fragrance or essential oils
    • Creamy medium-suds lather with mild cleansing
    • Very hard, long-lasting bar
    • Made in small batches by hand
    • Wrapped in plastic-free vellum cigar bands

    Honeycomb & Oat Soap

    Original price was: $9.00.Current price is: $7.65 – $9.00Price range: $7.65 through $9.00.

Honeycomb & Oat is the kind of bar that needs very little explanation. Six ingredients — grass-fed tallow, goat milk, honey, colloidal oats, old-fashioned oats, and lye — and nothing else. The warm, caramel color isn’t from a colorant; it comes from the natural sugars in the goat milk and honey darkening when they meet the lye, a quiet bit of soap making chemistry that produces something beautiful without any help. Each bar is topped with a honeycomb design and a scattering of old-fashioned oats, and carries a gentle, natural honey scent that comes entirely from the honey itself.

    • Made with grass-fed beef tallow and goat milk
    • Sweetened with real honey — no fragrance oils or essential oils
    • Colloidal oats and old-fashioned oats for a gentle, skin-friendly lather
    • Warm caramel color from natural sugar chemistry — no synthetic colorants
    • Honeycomb top design with oat topping

    Description

Some bars are complicated. This one isn’t.

Honeycomb & Oat is made with six ingredients — grass-fed beef tallow, goat milk, honey, colloidal oats, old-fashioned oats, and sodium hydroxide. That’s it. No essential oils, no fragrance, no colorants, no extras. Just a straightforward bar that earns its place through the quality of what’s in it.

The warm, caramel-toned color that runs through each bar isn’t added — it’s made. When goat milk and honey are introduced to lye during the soap making process, the natural sugars react and darken, producing a rich, golden-brown hue that deepens with the length of the gelling period. Every batch comes out a little different depending on the heat and timing, which means each bar carries its own subtle variation. No two batches are exactly alike, and no synthetic colorant could replicate the warmth of it.

Goat milk brings a creamy richness to the lather that water simply can’t match. It has been used in soap and skin care for centuries — Cleopatra’s famous milk baths were likely goat milk — and the reason is straightforward: the fats and proteins in goat milk produce a gentler, more conditioning lather than a water-based bar. Honey adds its own contribution, lending the bar a faint, natural sweetness that comes through in the scent. Not perfumed. Not added. Just honey, doing what honey does.

Two forms of oat are used in this bar — colloidal oats, milled fine enough to blend smoothly into the lather and provide a gentle soothing quality, and old-fashioned oats scattered across the top of each bar as a topping. Oats have a long history in traditional skin care, prized for their calming properties and gentle texture. Together they give this bar a subtle, wholesome quality that suits the rest of the formula perfectly.

Each bar is pressed with a honeycomb design on top — a small, considered detail that makes this one of the most gift-ready bars in the lineup.

    • Made with grass-fed beef tallow and goat milk
    • Sweetened with real honey — no fragrance oils or essential oils
    • Natural honey scent from the honey itself
    • Colloidal oats and old-fashioned oats for a gentle, skin-friendly lather
    • Warm caramel color from natural sugar chemistry — no synthetic colorants
    • Honeycomb top design with oat topping
    • Very hard bar with a creamy, low-suds lather

Heirloom Tallow & Aloe Facial Bar

    Original price was: $8.00.Current price is: $6.80 – $8.00Price range: $6.80 through $8.00.

Some things were never meant to be improved upon. The Heirloom Tallow & Aloe Facial Bar is crafted the old-fashioned way — with grass-fed beef tallow, soothing aloe juice, and a thoughtful blend of calendula-infused jojoba and mullein-infused castor oil. Unscented and unhurried, it’s the kind of bar your grandmother might have recognized.

Free from synthetic fragrance, colorants, and unnecessary additives, this bar is a simple, honest choice for those who prefer to keep things clean and straightforward.

    • Made with grass-fed beef tallow
    • Formulated with aloe juice instead of water
    • Features calendula-infused jojoba and mullein-infused castor oil
    • Unscented — no fragrance or essential oils
    • No synthetic colorants or additives
    • Wrapped in plastic-free vellum cigar bands

    Description

Long before the skincare aisle existed, women cared for their skin with what the land provided. Tallow — rendered from the suet of grass-fed cattle — was a staple of the farmhouse, trusted for generations for its rich, skin-compatible qualities. The Heirloom Tallow & Aloe Facial Bar is a return to that tradition, made by hand in small batches with the same unhurried care.

Rather than water, this bar is crafted with aloe juice as its liquid base — a quiet nod to the herb gardens of old, where aloe was a household staple long before it appeared on store shelves. Aloe juice brings a gentle, plant-based quality to the lather that pairs naturally with the richness of tallow.

Two oil infusions round out the formula. Jojoba oil, infused with calendula — a flower long prized in traditional herbal practice for its gentle, skin-friendly nature — adds a golden warmth to the bar. Mullein-infused castor oil contributes to a creamy, conditioning lather with good staying power. Together, these ingredients reflect a time when soap was made with intention, not shortcuts.

This bar is unscented by design. No essential oils, no fragrance, no colorants. Just a clean, honest bar that lets the ingredients speak for themselves — ideal for those with fragrance sensitivities or anyone who simply prefers to keep their routine free of extras.

Each bar is wrapped in a plastic-free vellum cigar band, a nod to the understated elegance of another era. Simple. Purposeful. Nothing wasted.

    • Crafted with grass-fed beef tallow, sourced from trusted suppliers
    • Aloe juice used in place of water for a plant-based liquid base
    • Calendula-infused jojoba oil — a traditional herbal pairing
    • Mullein-infused castor oil for a rich, creamy lather
    • Completely unscented — no fragrance, no essential oils
    • No synthetic colorants or additives of any kind
    • Made in small batches by hand
    • Packaged in plastic-free vellum cigar bands

    Tallow Lip Balm – Unscented

    Original price was: $6.00.Current price is: $5.10 – $6.00Price range: $5.10 through $6.00.

Tallow Lip Balm is a simple, honest balm built from ingredients with a long track record. Grass-fed tallow and beeswax form the base — tallow for its skin-compatible richness, beeswax for structure and staying power. A carefully chosen blend of oils rounds it out: jojoba for its lightweight stability, rosehip for its naturally rich color and skin-friendly profile, sweet almond for its smooth application, and raspberry seed oil — a botanical known for its naturally occurring sun-protective properties. Unscented, unflavored, and a soft natural yellow from the unrefined rosehip oil.

    • Made with grass-fed tallow and beeswax
    • Jojoba, rosehip, sweet almond, and raspberry seed oils
    • Raspberry seed oil carries natural sun-protective properties
    • Soft yellow color from unrefined rosehip oil — no synthetic dyes
    • Unscented and unflavored

    Description

A good lip balm shouldn’t need much explaining. It should go on smoothly, stay put, and let your lips do the rest. Tallow Lip Balm does exactly that.

The base is grass-fed tallow and beeswax — two of the oldest and most trusted ingredients in traditional skin and lip care. Tallow, rendered from grass-fed cattle, has a fatty acid profile that sits close to the natural oils of human skin, which is part of why it absorbs comfortably without sitting heavily on the surface. Beeswax gives the balm its structure and staying power, creating a protective layer that holds moisture in and keeps the formula where you want it.

Five oils complete the formula. Jojoba oil — technically a liquid wax — is exceptionally stable and lightweight, giving the balm a smooth, non-greasy application. Rosehip oil brings its own contribution: naturally rich in beneficial compounds and pressed unrefined, it gives this balm its soft, warm yellow color. No dyes, no synthetic color — just unrefined rosehip doing what it does. Sweet almond oil adds a silky quality to the glide. Raspberry seed oil is the quiet standout — a botanical oil known among natural skincare formulators for its naturally occurring sun-protective properties. We make no specific SPF claims, but it’s a considered addition to a balm that earns its place on your lips year-round. Vitamin E rounds out the formula as a natural antioxidant that helps preserve the oils and supports the overall stability of the balm.

This balm is unscented and unflavored by design — no mint, no vanilla, nothing to compete with whatever else you’re wearing or eating. Just a clean, comfortable balm that does its job quietly and well.

    • Made with grass-fed tallow and beeswax
    • Jojoba, rosehip, sweet almond, and raspberry seed oils
    • Raspberry seed oil carries natural sun-protective properties — no specific SPF claim
    • Soft yellow color from unrefined rosehip oil — no synthetic dyes
    • Vitamin E for natural antioxidant support
    • Unscented and unflavored

    Tallow & Apricot Lotion Bar

    Original price was: $12.00.Current price is: $10.20 – $12.00Price range: $10.20 through $12.00.

Tallow & Apricot Lotion Bar is a solid skin bar that melts on contact with body heat and absorbs without leaving a greasy residue. Grass-fed tallow forms the base — a fat with a fatty acid profile close to the skin’s own natural oils — alongside mango butter and/or kokum butter for a firm, non-greasy texture that holds its shape in the tin. Jojoba oil contributes lightweight stability. Apricot kernel oil is the quiet standout — a lightweight, skin-friendly oil with a silky feel that makes this bar particularly pleasant to apply. Beeswax gives it structure. Vitamin E finishes the formula.

    • Grass-fed tallow base
    • Mango butter and/or kokum butter
    • Apricot kernel and jojoba oils
    • Vitamin E for antioxidant support
    • Solid bar — melts on contact with skin
    • Packaged in a reusable aluminum tin

    Description

A lotion bar is exactly what it sounds like — a solid bar of skin care that melts with the warmth of your hands and absorbs into the skin the way a lotion would, without the water, without the emulsifiers needed to hold water and oil together, and without the preservatives those emulsifiers require. What’s left is a concentrated, uncomplicated formula that does more with less.

Tallow & Apricot Lotion Bar starts with grass-fed tallow — a traditional skin care ingredient with a fatty acid composition that mirrors the natural oils of human skin. It absorbs readily and comfortably, lending the bar a skin-compatible quality that plant-oil-only formulas can sometimes miss. Mango butter and/or kokum butter contribute firm, non-greasy body to the formula — both are hard butters at room temperature that help the bar hold its shape in the tin while melting smoothly on contact with skin.

Jojoba oil — technically a liquid wax — is exceptionally stable and lightweight, absorbing without residue. Apricot kernel oil is the ingredient that gives this bar its particularly pleasant application feel — lightweight, silky, and well-suited to everyday use on the body, hands, or anywhere the skin feels dry or tight. Beeswax gives the bar its solid structure. Vitamin E rounds out the formula as a natural antioxidant that supports stability and shelf life.

Rub the bar between your palms to melt a thin layer, then smooth onto skin. A little goes a long way. Packaged in a reusable aluminum tin — a more durable and sustainable packaging choice than single-use plastic.

    • Grass-fed tallow base
    • Mango butter and/or kokum butter for firm, non-greasy body
    • Apricot kernel oil for a silky, lightweight application

Purely Crafted Handmade Soap

• Remove Botanicals: Some bars are adorned with dried botanicals for a natural finishing touch. Simply remove them before use to ensure a smooth, comfortable lather.

• Create a Rich Lather: Wet your hands, washcloth, or bath sponge and gently work the bar between your palms to build a creamy lather.

• Cleanse the Skin: Apply the lather to damp skin using gentle circular motions, allowing the soap to cleanse while you enjoy the natural aroma of essential oils.

• Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse with warm water until the skin feels clean and refreshed.

• Let Your Soap Dry Between Uses: To help extend the life of your bar, place it on a well-draining soap dish so it can dry fully between uses. If you don't have a soap dish, we have several options here.

• Explore Benefits: Due to labeling guidelines, we can’t make specific claims about the nourishing properties of our ingredients. However, we encourage you to explore the benefits of each ingredient and discover what works best for your skin!

• Naked & Natural: No parabens, no sulfates, no phthalates, no silicone, no SLS, no dyes, no artificial nonsense—just pure, skin-loving goodness.

• Beautifully Delicate: Natural colorants and essential oils are beautifully delicate—unlike synthetic dyes and fragrances, they tend to fade over time. That gentle fading is your proof it’s truly natural!

• Variations: Natural variations of color, design and shape occur with all handmade products.

• Longevity: For the richest color and scent experience, use your soap within a year. However, the longer the bar cures, the better the bar performs. A 10-year old bar might have lost its scent & color, but it will be the best soap you've ever used!

• Sensitivities: While our soaps are crafted with care and the best ingredients, some people are still sensitive to some natural ingredients. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.

Orders typically ship within 1–3 business days after your order is placed.

Shipping costs range from $5–$9, and US orders over $75 ship FREE. We ship via USPS (Priority & Flat Rate) and UPS Ground, depending on what works best for your order.

Delivery times vary based on the carrier and your location. All orders ship from Utah, USA.

Soap FAQs

Soap that is properly cured (6 weeks or longer) and are kept out of standing water, will last just as long, if not longer, than commercial soap. Soap that not allowed to dry between uses will tend to get mushy or soft and will not last as long. Soap savers or soap dishes will help extend the life of your soap by keeping it out of standing water. If you don't have one, check out these: https://hivibescollective.com/product-details/product/soap-savers/

We use both natural colorants and skin-safe micas. We also use essential oils and phthalate-free fragrance oils. We used to be a "natural" only company. However, after much research, and from the preferences of my customers, I use the type of colorant and fragrance based on the goal of that soap. I do, however, only use micas that are skin-safe (the kind used in make-up) and fragrance oils that do not have cancer-causing ingredients.

Because many of our soaps are made with only natural ingredients, some fading of scent or color is completely normal. Essential oils are delicate and can evaporate as the soap cures or is stored, especially lighter scents like citrus. Likewise, natural colorants such as clays, herbs, and plant powders may soften in shade over time since they aren’t stabilized with synthetic dyes.

This gentle change doesn’t affect the quality or effectiveness of the soap—it’s simply part of the charm of using a truly natural product. To keep your bars at their best, we recommend storing them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

As with all "real" soap, lye (sodium hydroxide) is used to change the butters and oils into "soap". Without lye, all you would have is a bar of butters and oils. However, once the saponification process is complete (within the first 48 hours), no lye remains in the soap. What is left is only soap and glycerin.

Note: Some commercial soaps are made of synthetic detergents and use no lye. Dove bars are one example. Synthetic detergents are not bad, they just use man-made cleansers rather than the old-fashioned style of soap-making. (We use synthetic detergents in our shampoo bars because they are much gentler and more pH balanced for your hair.)

If you have sensitive skin, it's best to always test first. You will find that less ingredients may be better for sensitive skin rather than adding extras that may aggravate it. Look for our single-oil/butter soaps that are unscented, such as our Pure Tallow Soap or our Pure Lard Soap. Both of these are very mild and gentle on the skin without stripping any extra oils.

As an artist of handmade products, I can attest that we are not machines. We can't always do things exactly the same time, every time. This includes everything from the ingredient amounts to how many poppy seeds we drop on top. You will know its handmade when every bar you see has its own personality, it's own look.

Whereas, commercial soaps are made by machines and are produced exactly the same way every time. There is definitely consistency, but no artistry in commercial products.

As someone who thanks God for the wonderful products that come from animals, I tend to create soaps that use animal fats. However, I also realize people don't think the same way as I do or who have allergic reactions to animal fats. Once we started creating our soap making courses, I wanted to offer more variety to those who prefer plant-based soaps and skincare. Now we offer many vegan soaps and skincare items. If you don't see what you want or need in a vegan product, let us know!

In addition, being a small handcrafting business, our products are not tested on animals. We also try to find ingredient brands who share these same values.

Most of my soap recipes do not use Palm oil. However, you might see one or two soaps that do include it. When we do use Palm Oil, we buy sustainable palm oil that is certified RSPO. Palm oil is a well-known oil in soap because it creates a wonderfully rich lather that cleanses well and makes a hard bar of soap. We like to test different recipes and will not hesitate to offer a great bar of soap that includes RSPO palm oil. If a soap includes Palm oil, we will include it in the Soap Profile section as well as in the list of ingredients.

RSPO palm oil is palm oil that meets the rigorous sustainability standards set by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), a global non-profit organization. You can read more about the RSPO here: https://rspo.org/why-sustainable-palm-oil/

As a handcrafter, we try to use a more sustainable way of packaging our product. We do use plastic shrink wrap on some products, but our soap packaging is plastic-free.

Currently, we ship our soap with just the vellum label.

We have used muslin bags to package our soap in the past and you may receive your soap in a bag as well as with a vellum label. The bag is cotton and you can even leave the soap in the muslin bag for a more exfoliating experience and to add more lather. In addition, you can reuse the muslin bag for your soap scraps so even the little bits of soap from other bars won't go to waste.

Sometimes trying new products, especially natural products that may work differently from commercial products, your body might start to detox and make change to your skin, hair, etc. Sometimes the change may be a negative one at first while your body adjusts to the new product. If this happens, don't immediately set aside the product. Your body may take a few days to a few weeks of use to work itself out and come to a balance.

However, if you are having an allergic reaction, discontinue use immediately and seek medical help, if needed. (Even natural ingredients have allergens that people can react with. Patch test first if you are worried about sensitives.)

If our product(s) just don't work for you after consistently using them for several weeks, or if you have an allergic reaction to one of our products, please contact us so we can discuss a refund or replacement of the item(s).

Yes! Law requires us to include the INCI name for our products that are considered cosmetics which is anything other than soap. Soap is not considered a cosmetic, so we don't include usually the INCI ingredient list. Whether we are required to include the INCI list or not, we always include the common name list so the ingredients are easily recognizable.

We want you to know how each ingredient affects the final product, if just out of curiosity or allergy-related. We've compiled lists of each ingredient and what they bring to the table. Check them out here: Butters & Oils, Additives (special oils, etc.)Scents (essential oils & fragrance oils), and colorants (powders & clays). You will also find these links in our footer at the bottom of each page as well as in the drop-down menu. If you don't see a particular ingredient listed, let us know, and we will add it. You can also google the standard name or INCI name for a good snapshot of the ingredient and its uses.

Tallow isn't like regular lotion; only a small amount is needed for each application. A small 2 oz container will last one person quite a while. However, it does depend on if you are only using it on your face as opposed to your entire body.

Yes, we use only essential oils to scent and clays to color, both of which are good for the skin. We also offer Unscented to those who may have skin sensitivities, for children, or those who prefer unscented skincare.

Fading of scent or color is completely normal. Essential oils are delicate and can evaporate as the whipped tallow sits, especially lighter scents like citrus. Likewise, natural colorants such as clays, herbs and plant powders may soften in shade over time since they aren’t stabilized with synthetic dyes.

This gentle change doesn’t affect the quality or effectiveness of the whipped tallow—it’s simply part of the charm of using a truly natural product. To keep your whipped tallow at its best, we recommend storing it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Well, it could smell like nothing, but it could have a faint beefy smell or my favorite, a buttery smell. It all depends on how the tallow was rendered, but also what breed of cow it came from and whether it was grass- or grain-finished. (Some say that grass-finished tallow has a beefier smell than grain-finished tallow and therefore, the "better" tallow is the "smellier" one). But in the end, the quality of the tallow is not necessarily reflected by the smell or lack, thereof.

Currently, we render local tallow ourselves for our whipped tallow and other skincare products, but find that our tallow is not necessarily milder smelling than tallow we've sourced from suppliers for our soaps. Some suppliers deodorize their tallow, which is another process that also removes many of the vitamins and minerals that are present in tallow, so we try to stay away from them, even for soap making.

If you have an aversion to the beef smell, we encourage you to stick with our scented whipped tallows which cover any scent that may exist. Our vanilla-infused tallow is our personal favorite and has a wonderful aroma that will not fade over time.

If you have sensitive skin, it's best to always test first. You will find that less ingredients may be better for sensitive skin rather than adding extras that may aggravate it. Look for our unscented versions of whipped tallow, which are also not colored with any clays. We also recommend the unscented varieties when using the product on children.

This includes everything from the ingredient amounts to how much fits in the jar. You will know its handmade when every bar you see has its own personality, it's own look.

Whereas, commercial tallow products are made by machines and are produced exactly the same way every time. There is definitely consistency, but no artistry in commercial products.

As a handcrafter, we try to use a more sustainable way of packaging our product. Glass is not porous and will not leach chemicals into our tallow balms like a plastic jar would. Sometimes we use plastic containers for samples or if someone places a custom order and wants to save a few bucks. We do, however, use plastic shrink wrap to seal the lids on the jars for protection and there is a plastic insert inside the metal lid. In the future, we may switch our jars to sustainable, recyclable plastic jars if glass is breaking during shipment or if shipping heavier glass gets cost prohibitive for our customers.

No, tallow is beef fat. But, just like all our other products, our whipped tallows are not tested on animals.

For Regular Whipped Tallow

Whipped Tallow products have a low melting point. If your product is heated over 80°F your tallow may lose its whipped consistency and become more of a solid balm or have a grainy texture. It does not affect the product in any way; only the consistency.

If this happens and you would like to bring it back to its original whipped consistency, follow these easy instructions:

1. Empty your tallow into a heat safe container.

2. Melt tallow in a double boiler until in a liquid state.

3. Place in freezer for a few minutes (just enough to cool and become a solid, but not so hard that it can't be whipped.

4. Using your hand mixer, blend your tallow until it incorporates enough air to reach the consistency you prefer.

5. Place back into original container.

6. Store in a cool, dry place or even the refrigerator if your climate is consistently warm.

For Magnesium Whipped Tallow

Because there is a preservative in this formula, by heating up the tallow the preservative will be neutralized. You could do this, but you will need to keep it refrigerated and use it up within a short period of time. My recommendation is to leave the consistency as is to leave the preservative intact.
