Tallow Lip Balm is a simple, honest balm built from ingredients with a long track record. Grass-fed tallow and beeswax form the base — tallow for its skin-compatible richness, beeswax for structure and staying power. A carefully chosen blend of oils rounds it out: jojoba for its lightweight stability, rosehip for its naturally rich color and skin-friendly profile, sweet almond for its smooth application, and raspberry seed oil — a botanical known for its naturally occurring sun-protective properties. Unscented, unflavored, and a soft natural yellow from the unrefined rosehip oil.
This lip balm isnt dry like others I've tried, it actually glides on like silk and keeps my lips moist without being greasy. Another five star product from HiVibes Collective, thanks!
A good lip balm shouldn't need much explaining. It should go on smoothly, stay put, and let your lips do the rest. Tallow Lip Balm does exactly that.
The base is grass-fed tallow and beeswax — two of the oldest and most trusted ingredients in traditional skin and lip care. Tallow, rendered from grass-fed cattle, has a fatty acid profile that sits close to the natural oils of human skin, which is part of why it absorbs comfortably without sitting heavily on the surface. Beeswax gives the balm its structure and staying power, creating a protective layer that holds moisture in and keeps the formula where you want it.
Five oils complete the formula. Jojoba oil — technically a liquid wax — is exceptionally stable and lightweight, giving the balm a smooth, non-greasy application. Rosehip oil brings its own contribution: naturally rich in beneficial compounds and pressed unrefined, it gives this balm its soft, warm yellow color. No dyes, no synthetic color — just unrefined rosehip doing what it does. Sweet almond oil adds a silky quality to the glide. Raspberry seed oil is the quiet standout — a botanical oil known among natural skincare formulators for its naturally occurring sun-protective properties. We make no specific SPF claims, but it's a considered addition to a balm that earns its place on your lips year-round. Vitamin E rounds out the formula as a natural antioxidant that helps preserve the oils and supports the overall stability of the balm.
This balm is unscented and unflavored by design — no mint, no vanilla, nothing to compete with whatever else you're wearing or eating. Just a clean, comfortable balm that does its job quietly and well.
Rub it on! – Open the tube and apply to lips.
Keep it Happy! – Keep your lip balm away from direct sunlight and from excessive heat (like in the car all day). Our lip balms have less anchoring waxes than commercial brands, so it may melt quicker than a commercial lip balm.
💡 Bonus Tip: Tallow, if melted, cools at a different temperature than other butters and oils. This is evident if your lip balm heats up, then cools with a grainy texture. To fix this, melt it again on purpose, by removing the balm from the container and warming up in a double boiler or microwave. Once melted (but not over 158°F), pour back into the container and place upright in the freezer until solid. This will force all the ingredients to cool at the same rate.

Yes, we only use essential oils to scent our lip balms. Be aware, however, that grapefruit essential oil contains Bergapten, which has phototoxic qualities. This means your lips can become sensitive or burn from sunlight.
Fading of scent is completely normal. Essential oils are delicate and can evaporate as the lip balm is stored or ages, especially lighter scents like citrus.
This gentle change doesn’t affect the quality or effectiveness of the lip balm—it’s simply part of the charm of using a truly natural product. To keep your lip balms at their best, we recommend storing them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
If you have sensitive skin, it's best to always test first. We also offer unscented versions of our lip balms.
As an artist of handmade products, I can attest that we are not machines. We can't always do things exactly the same time, every time. This includes everything from the ingredient amounts to how it is poured in the container. You will know its handmade when every balm you see has its own personality, it's own look.
Whereas, commercial products are made by machines and are produced exactly the same way every time. There is definitely consistency, but no artistry in commercial products.
We are also looking for the very best ingredients and packaging available. Some packaging may look different than the product picture shows.
If you have sensitive skin, it's best to always test first. You will find that less ingredients may be better for sensitive skin rather than adding extras that may aggravate it. Look for our single-oil/butter soaps that are unscented, such as our Pure Tallow Soap or our Pure Lard Soap. Both of these are very mild and gentle on the skin without stripping any extra oils.
As someone who thanks God for the wonderful products that come from animals, I tend to create soaps & skincare that use animal fats. However, I also realize people don't think the same way as I do or who have allergic reactions to animal fats. I try to offer something for everyone. We offer 2 versions of lip balm; one with Tallow and one without. However, both our recipes include beeswax.
In addition, as a small handcrafter, none of my products are tested on animals.
As a handcrafter, we try to use a more sustainable way of packaging our product. However, cost of packaging prohibits us from offering cardboard tubing at this time. As we grow and are able to purchase in bulk, we would be able to get the price down to an amount that we wouldn't have to forward the cost to the customer.
Sometimes trying new products, especially natural products that may work differently from commercial products, your body might start to detox and make change to your skin, hair, etc. Sometimes the change may be a negative one at first while your body adjusts to the new product. If this happens, don't immediately set aside the product. Your body may take a few days to a few weeks of use to work itself out and come to a balance.
However, if you are having an allergic reaction, discontinue use immediately and seek medical help, if needed. (Even natural ingredients have allergens that people can react with. Patch test first if you are worried about sensitives.)
If our product(s) just don't work for you after consistently using them for several weeks, or if you have an allergic reaction to one of our products, please contact us so we can discuss a refund or replacement of the item(s).
Yes! Law requires us to include the INCI name for our products that are considered cosmetics which is anything other than soap. Soap is not considered a cosmetic, so we don't include usually the INCI ingredient list. Whether we are required to include the INCI list or not, we always include the common name list so the ingredients are easily recognizable.
We want you to know how each ingredient affects the final product, if just out of curiosity or allergy-related. We've compiled lists of each ingredient and what they bring to the table. Check them out here: Butters & Oils, Additives (special oils, etc.), Scents (essential oils & fragrance oils), and colorants (powders & clays). You will also find these links in our footer at the bottom of each page as well as in the drop-down menu. If you don't see a particular ingredient listed, let us know, and we will add it. You can also google the standard name or INCI name for a good snapshot of the ingredient and its uses.
Tallow isn't like regular lotion; only a small amount is needed for each application. A small 2 oz container will last one person quite a while. However, it does depend on if you are only using it on your face as opposed to your entire body.
Yes, we use only essential oils to scent and clays to color, both of which are good for the skin. We also offer Unscented to those who may have skin sensitivities, for children, or those who prefer unscented skincare.
Fading of scent or color is completely normal. Essential oils are delicate and can evaporate as the whipped tallow sits, especially lighter scents like citrus. Likewise, natural colorants such as clays, herbs and plant powders may soften in shade over time since they aren’t stabilized with synthetic dyes.
This gentle change doesn’t affect the quality or effectiveness of the whipped tallow—it’s simply part of the charm of using a truly natural product. To keep your whipped tallow at its best, we recommend storing it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Well, it could smell like nothing, but it could have a faint beefy smell or my favorite, a buttery smell. It all depends on how the tallow was rendered, but also what breed of cow it came from and whether it was grass- or grain-finished. (Some say that grass-finished tallow has a beefier smell than grain-finished tallow and therefore, the "better" tallow is the "smellier" one). But in the end, the quality of the tallow is not necessarily reflected by the smell or lack, thereof.
Currently, we render local tallow ourselves for our whipped tallow and other skincare products, but find that our tallow is not necessarily milder smelling than tallow we've sourced from suppliers for our soaps. Some suppliers deodorize their tallow, which is another process that also removes many of the vitamins and minerals that are present in tallow, so we try to stay away from them, even for soap making.
If you have an aversion to the beef smell, we encourage you to stick with our scented whipped tallows which cover any scent that may exist. Our vanilla-infused tallow is our personal favorite and has a wonderful aroma that will not fade over time.
If you have sensitive skin, it's best to always test first. You will find that less ingredients may be better for sensitive skin rather than adding extras that may aggravate it. Look for our unscented versions of whipped tallow, which are also not colored with any clays. We also recommend the unscented varieties when using the product on children.

This includes everything from the ingredient amounts to how much fits in the jar. You will know its handmade when every bar you see has its own personality, it's own look.

As a handcrafter, we try to use a more sustainable way of packaging our product. Glass is not porous and will not leach chemicals into our tallow balms like a plastic jar would. Sometimes we use plastic containers for samples or if someone places a custom order and wants to save a few bucks. We do, however, use plastic shrink wrap to seal the lids on the jars for protection and there is a plastic insert inside the metal lid. In the future, we may switch our jars to sustainable, recyclable plastic jars if glass is breaking during shipment or if shipping heavier glass gets cost prohibitive for our customers.

No, tallow is beef fat. But, just like all our other products, our whipped tallows are not tested on animals.
For Regular Whipped Tallow
Whipped Tallow products have a low melting point. If your product is heated over 80°F your tallow may lose its whipped consistency and become more of a solid balm or have a grainy texture. It does not affect the product in any way; only the consistency.
If this happens and you would like to bring it back to its original whipped consistency, follow these easy instructions:
1. Empty your tallow into a heat safe container.
2. Melt tallow in a double boiler until in a liquid state.
3. Place in freezer for a few minutes (just enough to cool and become a solid, but not so hard that it can't be whipped.
4. Using your hand mixer, blend your tallow until it incorporates enough air to reach the consistency you prefer.
5. Place back into original container.
6. Store in a cool, dry place or even the refrigerator if your climate is consistently warm.
For Magnesium Whipped Tallow
Because there is a preservative in this formula, by heating up the tallow the preservative will be neutralized. You could do this, but you will need to keep it refrigerated and use it up within a short period of time. My recommendation is to leave the consistency as is to leave the preservative intact.
