Citronella & Cedar Lotion Bar

Original price was: $10.00.Current price is: $8.50 – $10.00Price range: $8.50 through $10.00.

Citronella & Cedar Lotion Bar is a solid skin bar with two jobs — effective insect repellent and genuinely good lotion bar. The base is kokum butter, shea butter, and beeswax — firm, non-greasy, and skin-compatible — with argan, rosehip, pumpkin seed, and raspberry seed oils for a well-rounded botanical blend. The scent is a proprietary blend of citronella, cedarwood, lemongrass, peppermint, and geranium — chosen as much for function as for fragrance. No DEET, no aerosol, no sticky spray residue. Just rub the bar onto exposed skin and go.

I love this lotion because my legs get really dry after shaving, and normal lotion burns when I put it on my freshly shaved legs. But with this bar, when I use it my legs become so soft without the burn. It’s so awesome!

Citronella & Cedar Lotion Bar

Most insect repellents ask you to choose between effective and pleasant. Citronella & Cedar Lotion Bar doesn't make you choose. This is first and foremost an insect repellent — built around a proprietary blend of citronella, cedarwood, lemongrass, peppermint, and geranium, combining both essential oils and fragrance oils chosen for their well-known repellent properties. Citronella and lemongrass are the classic outdoor companions, relied upon for generations as natural alternatives to chemical repellents. Cedarwood grounds the blend with warm, woody depth and its own insect-deterring reputation. Peppermint brings a crisp, cooling note. Geranium provides a soft floral balance that keeps the whole blend from being sharp or clinical. What makes this different from a conventional spray is the format. No aerosol, no pump, no sticky mist that lands on everything around you. You rub the bar between your palms, melt a thin layer, and smooth it onto exposed skin — the same motion you'd use with any lotion bar. The application is precise, controlled, and pleasant. It absorbs into the skin rather than sitting on top of it, which means it doesn't feel greasy or coated the way many spray repellents can. And because it's a solid bar, there's nothing to spill in your bag. The base is genuinely good skin care in its own right — kokum butter, shea butter, and beeswax for a firm, non-greasy structure, argan, rosehip, pumpkin seed, and raspberry seed oils for a thoughtful botanical blend. Arrowroot powder keeps the finish dry and comfortable. Your skin gets the benefit of a well-formulated lotion bar every time you apply it. DEET-free and aerosol-free. A natural solution for those who want effective insect repellent without synthetic chemical ingredients. Packaged in a reusable aluminum tin compact enough to slip into a pocket, bag, or hiking kit.

Purely Crafted Lotion Bars

Warm the Bar – Warm the bar in your hands until it starts to melt.

Glide – Glide over your skin anywhere you need extra moisture.

Facial Pearl – This moisturizer is made of butters that melt immediately on contact with the skin. We recommend handling it lightly with fingers or using a piece of muslin or small towel to keep it from melting on your hands.

Sunscreen Protection – Use anywhere you need protection from the sun.

Insect Repellent – Use anywhere you need protection from biting insects.

Keep it Happy! – Keep your lotion bars out of direct sun or high heat. They will get soft and possibly melt over 95°F.

💡 Bonus Tip: If you are using a tallow lotion bar, moisten your skin, then glide the bar. The tallow will seal in the moisture. Tallow, itself, does not moisturize, only seals in moisture.

• Naked & Natural: No parabens, no sulfates, no phthalates, no silicone, no artificial nonsense—just pure, skin-loving goodness.

• Ingredients: We’re always working to bring you the best, so ingredient lists may evolve! For the most up-to-date details, check the product packaging. See these links for detailed information on the ingredients we use: Oils, Butters & LyeAdditivesEssential Oils & FragrancesColorants.

• Sensitivities: While our lotion bars are crafted with care, discontinue use if irritation occurs.

• Lotion Bar Properties: Due to labeling guidelines, we can’t make specific claims about the nourishing properties of our ingredients. However, we encourage you to explore the benefits of each ingredient and discover what works best for your skin!

• Fading: Natural colorants and essential oils are beautifully delicate—unlike synthetic dyes and fragrances, they tend to fade over time. That gentle fading is your proof it’s truly natural!

• Lotion Bar Texture: Your lotion bar should come to you as a solid smooth form. However, tallow has a lower melting point than most plant butters and therefore can easily be softened to the point that it may separate slightly from the other oils in the recipe. This may cause our bars to feel a little grainy. There is nothing wrong with the bar other than the texture. If you would like to remelt your lotion bar so it gets back to it's smooth texture, please follow the instructions below in the FAQs section.

• Variations: Natural variations of color, design and shape occur with all handmade products.

Orders typically ship within 1–3 business days after your order is placed.

Shipping costs range from $5–$9, and US orders over $75 ship FREE. We ship via USPS (Priority & Flat Rate) and UPS Ground, depending on what works best for your order.

Delivery times vary based on the carrier and your location. All orders ship from Utah, USA.

Returns

Ordering online can feel a little uncertain — you can’t smell it, touch it, or try it first. We get that, and we want to take the worry out of it.

Smooth as silk

This lip balm isn't dry like others I've tried, it actually glides on like silk and keeps my lips moist without being greasy. Another five star product from HiVibes Collective, thanks!

Lotion Bar FAQs

It all depends on how often you use your lotion bar. It will last longer if you keep it from melting.

Yes, we use only the best butters, tallow, oils and essential oils that your skin loves. We research and use butters and oils that have positive effects on our skin.

Yes. But if you if you have sensitive skin, make sure to do a patch test just to be sure.

As an artist of handmade products, I can attest that we are not machines. We can't always do things exactly the same time, every time. This includes everything from the ingredient amounts to how full we fill the molds. You will know its handmade when every bar you see has its own personality, it's own look.

Whereas, commercial products are made by machines and are produced exactly the same way every time. There is definitely consistency, but no artistry in commercial products.

As someone who thanks God for the wonderful products that come from animals, I tend to create lotion bars that use animal fats. However, I also realize people don't think the same way as I do or who have allergic reactions to animal fats. I try to offer something for everyone. We do offer a vegan lotion bar. Although our sunscreen and insect repellent bars have beeswax, they do not have animal fats. You can check the ingredient list of any bar for things that might not work for you.

In addition, as a small handcrafter, none of my products are tested on animals.

As a handcrafter, we try to use a more sustainable way of packaging our product. Our lotion bars come in reusable tins. We do use plastic shrink wrap to seal our tins, but no other packaging contains plastic.

Our small facial pearls do come in a small plastic container. We will be transitioning them over to an aluminum tin when we find an appropriate substitute.

Sometimes trying new products, especially natural products that may work differently from commercial products, your body might start to detox and make change to your skin, hair, etc. Sometimes the change may be a negative one at first while your body adjusts to the new product. If this happens, don't immediately set aside the product. Your body may take a few days to a few weeks of use to work itself out and come to a balance.

However, if you are having an allergic reaction, discontinue use immediately and seek medical help, if needed. (Even natural ingredients have allergens that people can react with. Patch test first if you are worried about sensitives.)

If our product(s) just don't work for you after consistently using them for several weeks, or if you have an allergic reaction to one of our products, please contact us so we can discuss a refund or replacement of the item(s).

Yes! Law requires us to include the INCI name for our products that are considered cosmetics which is anything other than soap. Soap is not considered a cosmetic, so we don't include usually the INCI ingredient list. Whether we are required to include the INCI list or not, we always include the common name list so the ingredients are easily recognizable.

We want you to know how each ingredient affects the final product, if just out of curiosity or allergy-related. We've compiled lists of each ingredient and what they bring to the table. Check them out here: Butters & Oils, Additives (special oils, etc.)Scents (essential oils & fragrance oils), and colorants (powders & clays). You will also find these links in our footer at the bottom of each page as well as in the drop-down menu. If you don't see a particular ingredient listed, let us know, and we will add it. You can also google the standard name or INCI name for a good snapshot of the ingredient and its uses.

Our sunscreen has 25% non-nano zinc oxide. In order for us to claim a certain SPF, we must have them tested by a lab. Since we are a small company, we don't have the resources to pay for testing. Do your research as well as test the bar for yourself to conclude the effectiveness for you and your family.

Yes! If your lotion bar warmed up to a point where the tallow got a little grainy, follow the instructions below:

Step 1: Find a suitable mold for your lotion bar. The best kind is silicone, but a plastic mold would work as well. The shape doesn't matter unless you want to continue keeping your bar in the original tin. Some good sizes would include a muffin mold, silicone cupcake liner or chocolate mold. You could also use a small glass jar as a mold. Just make sure if using glass or plastic to wipe the inside with olive oil first so it releases easily.

Step 2: Cut up the lotion bar into small pieces.

Step 3: In a double boiler, warm the pieces until they are completely melted. Try not to let it get over 225°F.

Step 4: Pour the oil into your mold. Place the mold in the freezer for 30-60 minutes.

Step 5: Pop out the lotion bar and let sit at room temperature for a day or two before using.

Tallow isn't like regular lotion; only a small amount is needed for each application. A small 2 oz container will last one person quite a while. However, it does depend on if you are only using it on your face as opposed to your entire body.

Yes, we use only essential oils to scent and clays to color, both of which are good for the skin. We also offer Unscented to those who may have skin sensitivities, for children, or those who prefer unscented skincare.

Fading of scent or color is completely normal. Essential oils are delicate and can evaporate as the whipped tallow sits, especially lighter scents like citrus. Likewise, natural colorants such as clays, herbs and plant powders may soften in shade over time since they aren’t stabilized with synthetic dyes.

This gentle change doesn’t affect the quality or effectiveness of the whipped tallow—it’s simply part of the charm of using a truly natural product. To keep your whipped tallow at its best, we recommend storing it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Well, it could smell like nothing, but it could have a faint beefy smell or my favorite, a buttery smell. It all depends on how the tallow was rendered, but also what breed of cow it came from and whether it was grass- or grain-finished. (Some say that grass-finished tallow has a beefier smell than grain-finished tallow and therefore, the "better" tallow is the "smellier" one). But in the end, the quality of the tallow is not necessarily reflected by the smell or lack, thereof.

Currently, we render local tallow ourselves for our whipped tallow and other skincare products, but find that our tallow is not necessarily milder smelling than tallow we've sourced from suppliers for our soaps. Some suppliers deodorize their tallow, which is another process that also removes many of the vitamins and minerals that are present in tallow, so we try to stay away from them, even for soap making.

If you have an aversion to the beef smell, we encourage you to stick with our scented whipped tallows which cover any scent that may exist. Our vanilla-infused tallow is our personal favorite and has a wonderful aroma that will not fade over time.

If you have sensitive skin, it's best to always test first. You will find that less ingredients may be better for sensitive skin rather than adding extras that may aggravate it. Look for our unscented versions of whipped tallow, which are also not colored with any clays. We also recommend the unscented varieties when using the product on children.

As an artist of handmade products, I can attest that we are not machines. We can't always do things exactly the same time, every time. This includes everything from the ingredient amounts to how much fits in the jar. You will know its handmade when every bar you see has its own personality, it's own look.

Whereas, commercial tallow products are made by machines and are produced exactly the same way every time. There is definitely consistency, but no artistry in commercial products.

As a handcrafter, we try to use a more sustainable way of packaging our product. Glass is not porous and will not leach chemicals into our tallow balms like a plastic jar would. Sometimes we use plastic containers for samples or if someone places a custom order and wants to save a few bucks. We do, however, use plastic shrink wrap to seal the lids on the jars for protection and there is a plastic insert inside the metal lid. In the future, we may switch our jars to sustainable, recyclable plastic jars if glass is breaking during shipment or if shipping heavier glass gets cost prohibitive for our customers.

Sometimes trying new products, especially natural products that may work differently from commercial products, your body might start to detox and make change to your skin, hair, etc. Sometimes the change may be a negative one at first while your body adjusts to the new product. No, tallow is beef fat. But, just like all our other products, our whipped tallows are not tested on animals.

For Regular Whipped Tallow

Whipped Tallow products have a low melting point. If your product is heated over 80°F your tallow may lose its whipped consistency and become more of a solid balm or have a grainy texture. It does not affect the product in any way; only the consistency.

If this happens and you would like to bring it back to its original whipped consistency, follow these easy instructions:

1. Empty your tallow into a heat safe container.

2. Melt tallow in a double boiler until in a liquid state.

3. Place in freezer for a few minutes (just enough to cool and become a solid, but not so hard that it can't be whipped.

4. Using your hand mixer, blend your tallow until it incorporates enough air to reach the consistency you prefer.

5. Place back into original container.

6. Store in a cool, dry place or even the refrigerator if your climate is consistently warm.

For Magnesium Whipped Tallow

Because there is a preservative in this formula, by heating up the tallow the preservative will be neutralized. You could do this, but you will need to keep it refrigerated and use it up within a short period of time. My recommendation is to leave the consistency as is to leave the preservative intact.
